Democrats lose their shirts.

11/5/2002 - 11:00PM

Everyone knows that it is normally expected for the party of a sitting president to lose seats in both Congress and the Senate during a mid-term election. If you haven't been paying attention, the Republicans are upsetting the Democrats all over the nation tonight. As things currently sit, the Republicans stand to take control of the Senate and even more firmly control the House of Representatives. The reasons for the upset are simple and I assure you that the Democrats have done this to themselves. If you're not aware of these reasons, let me share some thoughts with you.

The Democrats no longer stand for anything of substance.

As far as I can tell, the only things the Democrats do stand for is vote buying via handouts and even greater entitlement plans. They also would appear to fully support homosexuals and their agendas. They would also appear to stand for higher taxes as they continually speak of repealing the so called "horrific tax cut." People in this country are finally beginning to understand what the Democrats do stand for and it is not in line with their own personal beliefs. They will stand for any debauched idea or person, but rarely ever stand up for common decency.

The Democrats are effectively enabling America's enemies.

If there was one particular issue that got my ire up over the last few months, it was the fact that the Democrats were dragging their feet over the effort to show solidarity in the struggle against terrorism. The current Democratic Senate leadership (Tom Daschle) are refusing to allow the Homeland Security Bill a vote on the floor of the senate. To make matters worse, they railed, "Oh, we must seek the approval of the United Nations." Well, Bush went to the U.N. and is still working to pass a resolution within the Security Council. Then they said, "We'll you must seek approval from Congress." Bush had no intention of skirting our Congress and Congress gave Bush almost unanimous support.  Then they said, "We must not act unilaterally." I can assure you that Bush has no intention of acting unilaterally.

I said time and time again that the vote in the Congress isn't just about going to war, it's about whether or not we as a people and a nation are going to show solidarity to the world and to Iraq that we are serious about removing Saddam's arsenal and the threat of terrorism wherever it may exist. Solidarity is key here and the Democrats have been single handedly riding the brakes. Look, no one wants to go to war. I don't want to go to war, President Bush doesn't want to go to war, and the American people don't want to go to war. Something the American people now understand however is that if we don't stamp out both cutthroat dictators hell bent on killing us, and the threat of terrorism wherever it exists, we will ultimately pay a much higher price than that of 9/11. You, Me, all of us are in this for our very survival both as a people and as a culture. We must, we absolutely must take the threat of terrorism seriously and fight if necessary to prevent massive future casualties.

The Democrats argue in favor of impractical solutions and policies.

Two words - "tax cuts." Talk about shooting yourself in the foot. The Democrats are really off the rails when it comes to tax policy. Everyone knows our tax burden is too high. Their lies about the richest 1% don't work once people understand that that 1% of Americans pay 37.5% of all the income taxes. Everyone knows that by the time you add up all local, state, and federal taxes that most people are paying in excess of 40% of their income to the government.  The Democrats apparently aren't satisfied with 40%? Amazing isn't it? How much is enough if 40 plus percent isn't? Must we pay 60 or 80%? Would they be happy with that? Do Democrats ever discuss cutting spending? Something that everyone should understand is that if you look at Democratic policy broadly, they do not stand for a single economic issue that would put more of your own money back into your pocket or allow you to control your own finances.

--On Healthcare the Democrats want the government to regulate healthcare and take more of your money to provide "health insurance" to those who can't buy it. Never mind that our emergency rooms are already overflowing with "non-paying customers." Emergency care - OK fine - but don't dare ask me to fund yet another entitlement plan designed to keep your party in power indefinitely.

--On Social Security - They continually insist that the status quo is adequate and to put retirement savings into the hands of individuals would be a catastrophic blunder. Never mind that the stock market outperforms Social Security even with the current downturn factored in.

--On Taxes in general - They know how to spend your money better that you do and man it's time to ante up. If you make more than about $24,000 a year, you need to do your part to support those who don't.

--On Education - The status quo is again what the Democrats desire. They continually work to block any movement that would enable more American's to send their children to the schools of their choice. Their idea of a solution is to continually pour more money into that black hole that is the government education system. Look guys, it's broken. We've already proven that money can't fix the problems with government schools. It's time to try a different approach.

On The Second Amendment - They believe that American's are not capable of managing their own lives and their own self defense. Never mind that approximately 7,000 times a day normal Americans use guns to stop crimes in progress. In greater than 98% of those cases, the gun is never even fired. The gun simply needs to be wielded in order to make crooks flee.

I could go on but, you can see that issue after issue, the Democrats simply can't stand the idea of you controlling your own life or your own pocketbook. After all, you're simply too stupid.

I believe that 9/11 will ultimately have a tremendous impact on this country's political landscape. 9/11 has caused a great many people in this country to wake up from their apathetic slumbers. But I also believe that the Democrats have done this to themselves by arguing in favor of  inane policies and alienating themselves from typical Americans.

As Al Pacino said in The Devil's Advocate, "we're coming out!"  Might this be America's next great awakening?
